Twice a year, Sufabel support prominent religious and traditional leaders under the Social and Behavior Change Advocacy Core Group in our five intervention local government areas in Gombe State to develop a 6-months work plan that tackles behavior related health challenges as they affect the well being of women and children.

Through their pulpits in churches and mosques, as well as public and religious gatherings, these eminent personalities – who command respect among their followers – give religious backing to positive health practices such the need for husbands to ensure complete antenatal care, hospital delivery and child birth spacing among their families.

They also promote complete routine immunization for children, exclusive breastfeeding, HIV screening, TB screening etc. by talking to pregnant and nursing mothers in health facilities and conducting outreaches in noncompliance communities.

By doing this, the religious and traditional leaders help improve health indices in their respective local governments, thus reducing maternal mortality and child morbidity through behavior change.
